RITES OF SPRING

Spring is the season of new beginnings, a time to let go of the clutter that is filling your files, your closets and your mind.

- If you've filed your taxes, take a quick inventory of what you really need to keep, and recycle the rest. If necessary, check with your accountant first. Are you holding on to paper you no longer need?
- Before you put your winter clothes away, is there something you didn't wear or no longer like? Consider giving it to a charity. Free the space in your closet and get a tax write off for next year.
- Clutter fills our minds also. Is there an unresolved issue that you keep carrying around? The amount of time that goes into continually thinking about an issue is probably much greater than dealing with it. Getting rid of that clutter- physical or mental - allows space for something new.

A GOOD READ

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a soft spot for dogs. Recently I read Amazing Gracie, a Dog's Tale by Dan Dye and Mark Beckloff. Gracie is a deaf, partially blind dog they rescued. When Gracie won't eat, the authors learn to bake all natural dog biscuits, hoping to save her life. The biscuits were a huge hit with humans and dogs alike, (even Oprah liked them), and from that a new business was born. What began as a passion just happened to fill a hole in the marketplace. As someone who firmly believes that it is important to love what you do, the story carrying them from unhappy employees to successful entrepreneurs is inspirational. It's a great read with terrific life lessons to boot! Three Dog Bakery has branches coast to coast, and best of all they give credit to Gracie, their professional taster and muse.
