Success - what's your definition?

As I write this newsletter I'm preparing for two upcoming engagements that focus on the topic of success and what it means to attract success. A quote often attributed to Emerson is a fair assessment of success: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success." What is your definition of success? What are you doing to attract that success? What self-limiting thoughts are getting in the way of your success? Remember, success is what you say it is. It's not defined by others. SUCCESS STORY
A former client had always wanted to earn a PhD. but had put off her dream - life, raising a family, and work had taken her down a different path. But she didn't give up her dream. In 2002, now in her late 50's, she applied for a program but wasn't accepted. Though discouraged, she still didn't give up. She applied again, was accepted, and last fall she started work on her Ph.D. A GOOD READ Along with members of the Mercer Chapter of NJAWBO book club I had the opportunity to read Barbara Corcoran's book: Use What You've Got & Other Business Lessons I Learned from My Mom. In Barbara's amazing success story she quits her job as a diner waitress and borrows $1000 to start a real estate business. Twenty-eight years later, in 2001, Corcoran sold her real estate business for a reported $70 million dollars. She writes, "Although the competition might offer something you can't match, that doesn't matter. What matters is that you identify and play up what you've got." A couple of other success tips from her book are: - Perception creates reality - Have a plan of action - Preparation is the birthplace of confidence - Deliver what you promise - Be Yourself As Barbara did, focus on what makes you unique to your clients or your boss. What special talents or assets do you bring to the table? Use what you've got! COMMUNICATING SUCCESS On Tuesday evening June 15, Eileen N. Sinett and I will be offering a program called Communicating Success. Eileen is a Presentation Coach and owner of CCS. Email me at Robin@coachrobinfogel.com for more information and to register.
