Speed Cleaning Tips (before company arrives)

Let’s face it, we can’t all be Martha Stewart, and that’s ok. But when you have guests arriving at your door and the piles have not been picked up yet, here is a quick fix:

You’ll need 15 minutes for this speed clean routine. So start before they arrive or have someone tour them around the outside of your home while you clean up inside.

What you need:
¤ 15 minutes
¤ Lint Roller
¤ Laundry basket or Empty Box
¤ Empty garbage bag or container
¤ Two rags -one damp and one dry
¤ Room Freshener, scented candle etc.
¤ Vacuum (optional)
¤ Fresh Flowers or holiday centerpiece
¤ Background music
¤ A basket with your sample/trial products sizes and a sign saying help yourself (optional)

Step 1
Go into the living room and neaten the magazine pile and use your damp rag to wipe down surfaces like pictures frames on end tables. Use a lint roller on the couch and to spot touch the rug in right traffic area or where pets sleep. Toss piles of unsorted stuff like mail, and toys in the box or laundry basket. Collect any stray dishes or anything else that belongs in the kitchen.

Step 2
Go to the kitchen fill the dishwasher and collect piles of mail, toys and other things to be dealt with later and place them in the box or laundry basket.

Step 2
While in the kitchen scoop up any other mail piles or other items like toys and place in the box/laundry basket to sort later (not ideal, but time is of the essence). Wipe down countertop, use lint roller on any fabric chairs

Step 3
Stop in the dining room, put out the flowers or centerpiece and collect anything else that has been left out, place it in the laundry basket/box (by this time you may need a second box or basket)

Step 5
On your way to the bathroom take laundry basket with stuff to sort to your bedroom and place it on your bed to be dealt with later

Step 6
Spot clean the bathroom and refill paper products. If you have time you can also put out a small basket with unused trial or sample sizes of products you have on hand, lotions and things for guests to use (and maybe, hopefully, take with them)

Step7
Take out the trash and take a final walk through of the rooms guests will use. No reason to give them a full house tour.

Last Step
Put out the flowers or centerpiece, light the candle or spritz the room freshener, turn on the music and open the door to let your guests in (they might be cold waiting outside for you to finish)

That’s it! Go enjoy your company and remember to focus on making new memories.

PS Want to know the 5 things guests do notice? They'll notice a full trash can, piles of mail & paper, dishes in the sink, dust balls behind the bathroom, and a messy/dirty bathroom.

Update on Working with Jamie

I want to thank you if you took the time to share your story with me. I enjoyed reading your heartfelt submission.

The first candidates have been chosen. The fact that you were not chosen at this time in no way minimizes the struggles you face.

However there is a chance we might use your story in the future. At this time the focus is really on a person who has suffered a recent major setback causing them to lose sight of a goal, but now they are back on track. The side note is that clutter built up during this tragic time.

I'll be sending out more details as they become available.
