Clear Computer Clutter
with these 5 simple steps!

This week’s clutter challenge should you choose to accept it is to get a handle on your computer clutter.

Our computer is yet another source of clutter between the files, digital photos and email!

But there are some very simple steps you can take, you do not need to be a “techie” type person; if you can email you can do this! Try these this week:

Step 1 Clear your browser’s cache

This deletes saved versions of web pages you have visited. Simply log onto the Internet. Choose “tools” from the top toolbar then “internet options” followed by “clear/delete cookies”

Step 2 Clear the Desktop

Don’t keep all the icons for all the computer programs on your desktop. For the programs you open often, it makes sense. But for the programs you rarely use, it is easier to locate them from the start button if you’re using a PC.

This way you save time by being able to easily see and open the commonly used programs. Simply right click on the icon and choose delete it will confirm you want to delete the icon but remind you the program will not be deleted you can still access it from the start button.

Step 3 Give everyone who uses the computer a folder of his or her own

You might find it helpful to give each family member a folder of his or her own, that way they each have a place to store their files. No more sorting through everyone’s files to find your own.

Step 4 Turn on your Email Spa-M filter

Whichever email and virus blocker you use take a moment to be sure your Spa*m blocker is on at the highest level to minimize unwanted junk mail.

Step 5 Work in small blocks to delete and organize

Make it a new rule that whenever you work on the computer you’ll delete one file that you no longer need or move it into your folder. Is you have a backlog of emails in your inbox every time you check email delete/move/or deal with one or two existing emails.

Creating folders to store emails, such as this one on an “organizing” folder will be helpful. Soon your inbox will be less full.

That’s it! These 5 simple steps will help get your computer clutter under control. When your email and files are less cluttered life is easier. Have a clutter-free week, see you next week, Jamie

FEATURED PRODUCT OR SERVICE OF THE MONTH

The first month of the New Year is the perfect time to start a new check register and start a new system for bills and receipts. A 13 slot accordion file allows you to label one slot per month. Use that pocket to place all the stuff from that month. At the end of the year write the date on the outside and store it away with your tax return.
