HELP! I can't stay organized....
Have you ever spent time, money and energy to get a space in your home organized and then it goes back to being disorganized? Frustrating isn't it? It can cause you to second guess your ability to get organized. You can start to feel like you're hopeless. Then your motivation can all but disappear. Well if this has happened to you I have a few quick tips to help you STAY organized. This week's Clutter Challenge is to keep a space clutter free. So choose one area/room/closet/drawer/etc. that is already organized. NOTE: Don't have a completed space then concentrate on not letting it get worse. 1. Scan the area daily. Take notice of the space, being aware is key. 2. Enjoy the organized area. When you feel good about the space you take more pride in it, and you're more protective about maintaining it. 3. Catch the piles before they become mountains. Notice anything that gets left in the space. Why is it being left there? Maybe where it belongs is inconvenient? Make the home closer and easily reachable. 4. Use the two minute rule which says if you can do a task in two minutes or less do it right then. Do not allow items to sit there, instead deal with them immediately. 5. Make decisions in the moment about whether to keep or toss an item. Stop leaving things to decide about them later. Instead get good at making choices in the moment, stop leaving things until later. 6. Keep the space useful. Like a dining room table, set it for dinner, even if you are not eating there. If it has a purpose you're less likely to make it a dumping ground. 7. Picture how it was before and remember what it took to get it looking neat. Usually that is enough of a reminder to help you keep it looking great. But remember, some days we are just going so fast that we can backslide a little, the key is to catch yourself before it gets out of control and use your skills to reorganize. Great job this week, that's it. See you next week with another quick tip. Have a clutter-fr-ee* week, Jamie
