Discover Vertical Space
This week’s clutter challenge is to discover vertical space. How many times have you wished for more space? I have great news! There is probably wasted space that you can maximize. Most of us have horizontal furniture, think dresser, sideboard, desk, tables, you get the idea. As you have probably already experience horizontal furniture can be a magnet for clutter. It is all too easy to drop and go. Plus the space from the ceiling down is wasted. Try looking at the space and your furniture differently! A bookshelf that stops eighteen-inches below the ceiling can store a decorative box on top. Adding a hutch to the top of a desk can more than double your storage space. Don’t have a hutch? Try and open bookshelf or putting shelves up in the wall. And furniture is not the only option. Think of what you can hang in even the smallest of spaces. Can you add a hook to store an oversized pot in the kitchen, coats in the entryway, and items on the inside of a cabinet or back of a door? Once you get your mind thinking about the possibilities there is no limit to how you can use the wasted vertical space in your home (and office.) Try adding one vertical storage option to one room in your house this week. And remember, it does not have to be a permanent choice. Try it you have nothing to lose. If it doesn’t work you can change it. Trying it is the most important step. What vertical solution will you put into place today? That’s it for this week.
