The Secret to Organization

For this week’s clutter challenge I want to share with you the secret to organization.
Yep, that’s right, the secret! And it’s easier than you may be imagining.

So here it is, the secret is comprised of four parts.

Part one
KEEP ONLY WHAT FITS

This is vital to successful organizing. If you keep more than you have room to store then you are setting yourself up to fail. It is imperative that you edit your belongings and keep only what you have room to store.

This is where creative storage for small spaces and figuring out what you use and love comes in handy. More tips on that can be found at my website.

Part two
STORE IT WHERE YOU USE IT

Simple yet powerful this makes life so much easier! Many times we revert back to storing things where they were kept in our childhood home, or keeping them someplace just because it’s what we learned or it’s simply where they landed and we never thought to move them.

For the next week as you reach for something you need ask yourself if it is being kept in the most logical place. I bet you’ll find at least one thing to relocate.

For example, are you in the kitchen when you reach for a pair of scissors to open a package, but have to go to the home office to retrieve them? Or do the kids keep their backpacks in their bedrooms but need to get them for homework and then get them again to pack them for the next day?

When you store it where you use it is makes it easy to put it away and you don’t waste time. Want more time saving tips? See them at my website.

Part three
DO IT NOW

Have you noticed that later never comes? Think about it, you put down a stack of mail to sort later and it’s still in the same place days later. Or you leave one battery on the kitchen table to put away later and before you know it all sorts of other junk piles around it.

Stop that from happening! Simply do it now. Sort the mail in the moment, put the battery away, hang up your jacket, put the dishes in the dishwasher, fodl the laundry, shred the junk mail, the list is endless (I know.)

But the more you do right then the less there will be to do later.

Part four
BE CONSISTENT

I can’t stress this enough. Even if you do not have the perfect organizing system in place, don’t have the most storage space, or you lack cute baskets and bins you can still be organized! How you ask?

By being consistent. No matter what system you have in place or what storage you live with as long as you put things away on a daily basis you too can be organized. Think about it, as long as you consistently put things away when you are done using them and consistently tidy the rooms at the end of the day then there is really no way things can be left out.

Consistency is the key. That’s the fourth part of the secret.

Mastering the four parts of the secret to organization means that you will no longer struggle on a daily basis. Sure it may take some time to pare down your rooms and office but once you do you’ll be able to keep it that way!

Now you may be wondering if you can share this secret with friends and family, even if they do not subscribe to the Clutter Challenge. The answer is yes. You may take a moment now to forward this onto family and friends so they too can be in on the secret.

That’s it for this week. I’ll be back next week with another insider tip. Until then I look forward to hearing your success using the secret.
