Just How Bad is My Clutter? 9 Signs Of a Cluttered Life
I am often asked, On a scale of one to ten how bad is my clutter? So for this weeks clutter challenge Id like to share with you the top nine signs of a cluttered life, these act as a good barometer, look over the top nine signs, the more you agree with the higher on the scale you rate. But please keep in mind that even if you agree with all nine and therefore rate high on the scale this DOES NOT mean you are hopeless. This is simply a good way to determine where you are starting. The great news is that no matter where you fall there are simple solutions to calming the chaos of clutter and getting your time (and life) back! Ready? Here are the top nine signs of a cluttered life: 1. Unexpected guests send you into scoop and dump mode. Meaning before you can answer the door you need to grab a bag or laundry basket and run around scooping up piles of paper, toys, clothes etc., dumping them in a closet, your bedroom, or garage. 2. You misplace things on a daily basis. Everyday accessories like a cell phone, keys, pen, purse, shoes, jacket, well you get the picture. 3. You tend to live out of a laundry basket. Clothes are washed and ready to put away, yet there is no space in the dresser drawers or closet to put them hang them up or put them away. 4. Paper piles, of important papers are stacked on surfaces (and possibly the floor) throughout your home. You leave them out so you wont forget to act on them. 5. There is one (or more) areas of your home where you stash stuff planning to decide what to do with it later, but later never comes. This might be a garage, basement, attic, spare/guest bedroom etc. 6. You accrue late fees on bills paid late or youre not sure if you did since you dont reconcile your financial statements. 7. Spaces in your home cant be utilized for their intended purpose 8. The disorganization is causing conflicts in your relationships with friends and family. Or causing you to decline invitations because you feel tied to your home. 9. The only thing that has changed is that you need more storage space. Do you find yourself running out of space, even though you have not had some major life event, like a new baby or moving into a smaller home? No judgments here so be honest. The first step is knowing whats working and more importantly whats not so you can make a plan of attack and jump in! So now you know where you stand, I invite you to set a timer for 18 minutes some time this week and tackle one of the areas you checked off. Nothing gets solved until you take action. You can do this! Happy organizing. Jamie
