Updating Your Address Book
Do you have an address book held together by rubber bands with scraps of paper tucked inside? Or in the office do you have a stack of business cards and sticky notes with names and numbers scribbled on them? Well with only about 90 days left in 2007 addressing holiday cards is in our near future, so there is no better time organize our address books. Not only will it make addressing cards easier but we'll start fresh in 2008! I'm not suggesting you spend an entire weekend on this project. Instead take small steps over the next week or two. You can start by designating a single location to collect all the scraps of paper. Then you might work in 18 minute blocks of time to update a few in one sitting. The goal is to have a single system for personal names and addresses and another for business. I highly suggest you store the names and numbers where you need them. For example, no sense including all the contact names from your child's sports team roster into your address book, these change too often. Instead place a list like that on the inside door of your kitchen pantry near the phone. You might consider using a spreadsheet like Excel for your holiday card list, this will allow you to print the addresses directly onto the envelope or to make labels, if you like that look. It sure saves a case of writers cramp. You can place a white address label over any outdated contact information in your address book, like when someone moves. Although this may feel like a huge project getting caught up is not that bad, work in small blocks of time starting today so that you're all up to date before you need to start addressing holiday cards. That's it for this week's challenge. Have a clutter-free week, Jamie
