Cheat Sheets make one today...
I just bought a new printer; touted as a huge time saver because of how fast it can perform tasks. Id like to start taking advantage of some of the time I know Ill save if I could only remember which buttons to push to get it to do what I want. So far all together Ive spent at least an hour flipping though the 340-page instruction manual to get the steps to make it print, scan and fax. I found myself referring back to the same pages over and over. Then in dawned on me, copy the pages. And I would have, but Id have to read how to do it first! So instead I took a sheet of paper and made a note of the five buttons to push to fax, the three I need to push to save a new speed dial number and so on. I filed away the 340-page book and now I have a single simple sheet to read. I posted my cheat sheet by the printer and now Ill know just what I need to do. Oh and I also placed a label on the printer with the model number of the replacement ink cartridges. No more trying to figure it out, the information is right on hand. What tasks do you do that you forget the steps to? Downloading photos from your digital camera? Attaching a file to an email? Placing an international phone call? The type of replacement batteries in one of your childs toys? How to record a program on TIVO? For this weeks challenge choose one task that you need to do but have trouble remembering how, and then make yourself a cheat sheet so you have the steps on hand. Thats it! By simplifying tasks you save time and your sanity. Until next Monday have a clutter-free week, Jamie
