An international lactation conference - and it's ALL online!
Living up to our motto "Convenient, quality education" Health e-Learning is once again sponsoring GOLD08, a great online conference bringing some of the world's best speakers right to you at your computer! It starts May 16 and goes for 10 days.
My intention this month was to highlight just one of the great speakers who you'll be able to hear at GOLD08 this year. The problem was though, which one? Would you like to read about Dr Mark Cregan (Australian) who will be telling us about how he and his team found stem cells in breastmilk, or perhaps Christa Herzog-Isler (Swiss) who'll be telling us how so many babies with clefts are able to breastfeed using her techniques, but what about Dr Katsumi Mizuno (Japanese) who'll be sharing his findings on sucking pressure, sore nipples and breast drainage, or perhaps Prof Lars Hanson (Swedish) and his extraordinary work on the immunology of breastmilk, or maybe Dr Ching Tat Lai (Australian) who will tell us how we can individualize our guidance to mothers on pumping intervals to be most effective, or Elizabeth Brooks (American) who will help to guide our ethical behavior, to say nothing about how fascinating it will be to hear about breastfeeding customs in Rwanda from Paulo Paskazia and Marie-Grace Uwase. But that's not even a quarter of the GOLD08 speakers that I could have picked from! I'm sure you can understand my dilemma.
Instead, what I'll do is ask you to go and have a look at all the speakers and their topics on the GOLD08 website: GOLD08 Speakers. It's going to be a very exciting conference.
If you haven't attended an online conference before you're in for quite a treat. Your interaction with the speakers is greater than you'd get at a face-to-face conference. While you're listening to them speaking and watching their slides, graphics, video, etc you can type in your questions to be answered at the end of their presentation. However if you missed the live presentation, or you'd like to see it again, you can watch the recorded version anytime during the conference. Most speakers will be available to answer questions posed for them in the forum for the duration of the conference.
No travel or accommodation costs and top speakers available for 10 days - yes, that's definitely quality and convenience!
Two FREE pre-conference sessions will be held April 30 or May 1 (depending on your time zone) with the chair-elect of the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners and the president of the International Lactation Consultants Association. This is a great opportunity to hear how these organizations work for us and to ask them all those questions you may have. This will give you a taste of what an online conference is like too.

Until then,
Enjoy those mothers and babies,
