GOLD09 - THE Lactation Conference not to be missed!

Convenient, quality education
What you want, When you want, Where you want.

Denise Fisher
Editor

It's GOLD Month - GOLD09 Online Conference that is!

The GOLD09 Conference has already begun with Professor Peter Hartmann's preconference presentation: Evolution of Lactation: Protection vs Nutrition. It was enjoyed by hundreds during the live presentations, and even more have listened to the recording at their leisure. If you haven't heard it yet, as soon as you can set aside an hour to listen to Prof Hartmann - just go to the GOLD09 website and click on the link. This presentation is freely available to anyone to listen to, until the beginning of the GOLD09 conference.

While every good conference has presentations from researchers sharing new information with delegates, and GOLD09 is no exception, we think it's also important to offer presentations from practitioners in the field. At GOLD09 you'll hear from IBCLCs who share case studies, alternative treatment modalities, ethical issues, discuss exercise and breastfeeding, how to help mothers with obesity to breastfeed, what to do in times of disaster and other topics every health professional working with mothers and babies will probably need to know about one day.

But I can't be online next weekend!
No problem. All presentations will be recorded for you. You will be able to listen to every speaker, at your leisure, until the end of May. And at an online conference you'll actually get MORE contact with the speakers than you would at a face-to-face, because each speaker is given a forum specific to them where you can ask questions and they will answer them ... anytime this month!

If you haven't signed up for GOLD09 do it now. Don't miss a second of this, our third exciting online conference.

JAUNDICE AND BREASTFEEDING

The American Academy of Pediatrics has published a guide to managing jaundice. From discussions on message boards and queries from practitioners it would appear that many Health Professionals are unaware of these definitive guidelines. Mismanagement of jaundice, particularly jaundice in the breastfed baby, is a common problem which has the potential to interrupt breastfeeding with consequences potentially as serious as mismanaged neonatal jaundice.

Click on this link to read the Guidelines: Management of Hyperbilirubinemia.
Has your place of work adopted these guidelines? If you have any questions about the guidelines you can ask Prof Lawrence Gartner at the GOLD09 Conference. Prof Gartner will be discussing jaundice as it occurs in the newborn, with particular reference to the breastfed baby.

This month's newsletter is short as we prepare for GOLD09. I hope we'll see most of you there. If you have any questions about it please email admin@health-e-learning.com.

Until then,
Enjoy those mothers and babies,

Denise Fisher, IBCLC

Lactation Exam Practice

Hundreds of this year's IBLCE exam candidates are busily practicing exam-style questions, seeing where they need to do more study, and sharing knowledge and concerns in Lactation Exam Practice.

You can join up too. Read about it HERE
