LIVING OUT YOUR DREAMS

Welcome to the February 2001 edition of LIVING OUT YOUR DREAMS. Thanks so much to those of you who responded to our survey. We were pleased with the number who gave us feedback. The majority of you said you liked the newsletter just as it is, some would like to see it shorter due to the influx of email and shortage of time and quite a few of you said you particularly liked the real life stories and examples. All of your comments were taken into consideration and are appreciated. In response, we will do a combination of shorter and longer articles this year based on the topic - where we can shorten and still bring you value, we will. We will also be bringing you more real life examples in the future.

This month, Stacey talks about how to make the most of the new economy and your current situation and Deb talks about becoming more aware of the blessings and miracles in your everyday life.

As always we welcome your comments and feedback. Please forward this newsletter to anyone who you think would enjoy it. We'd like to share our thoughts on LIVING OUT YOUR DREAMS with as many people as possible. Instructions for subscribing to or removing yourself from this list are outlined at the end of the newsletter. If you would like to correspond with us directly, contact Deb at delkin@mindspring.com or Stacey at coach@balancedliving.com. We enjoy hearing from you and welcome your thoughts and suggestions.

With love and respect,

Stacey and Deb

Making the Most of the New Economy
By Stacey Mayo

The year 2001 has started out much different than the previous few years. The economy is balancing itself out - for some, such as mortgage companies, that means a boom while for others such as high tech companies, there has been a slow down.

It is important to trust that there are opportunities available everyday and for everyone. Regardless where you are, use this article as a catalyst to think about how to make the most of your current situation. Take the time to focus on what is possible versus what is not. Spend your energy focusing on the opportunities and visualizing what it would look like and feel like to have those opportunities turn into reality. Allow your present situation to be the impetus you need to make some of your dreams come true.

Here are several questions you can ask yourself and some things to things about going forward:

1) What are the opportunities right where I am? How can I, as an individual, make a difference? What do I have to contribute? Where can I take a leadership role? What talents do I have that can be best utilized now?

2) If you are faced with the possibility of a layoff or are currently unemployed, how can you shift that to an opportunity? Have you been truly satisfied in your current or previous job? What have you always wanted to do but were afraid to do it? How can you use this situation to make a positive change in your life?

3) If you are in business for yourself, where are the opportunities in this economy - what companies are doing well, even thriving? What are the needs of my typical customer right now? Where do my skills and talents fit? What other markets could I focus on?

4) Who do I know that may know other people who could help me or that I could help? Have fun networking and meeting new people and see what opportunities show up.

5) Don't worry, be happy. It's a fun song that seems trite but in actuality, the message is very important. Whatever we focus on is what we get more of. If you are spending your energy worrying about all the negative things that could happen, then that is what you will get more of. Instead, get clear about your intent for what you want to create in the new year and then look for opportunities to create it and to have fun. When we play and laugh, we are attractive and allow opportunities to flow through us. When we are worried or sad, we are restricted and nothing flows

6) Get supported. Surround yourself with positive people who choose to look for opportunities rather than complain about the present situation. Consider hiring a coach to support you in creating what you want in the new year.

BLESSINGS AND MIRACLES IN OUR LIVES
by Deb Elkin

Every day I get a handful of emails from my friends and
family, of jokes, short little touching stories, and
requests to sign on for various causes. Occasionally
it is annoying, (like when someone sends me 12 at a
time!), but mostly I welcome them because the truth
is, I can never get too many laughs, and my heart
always loves to be touched by a tender or inspiring
story.

So I want to share with you one of those stories that
got passed my way. I hope it will speak to you.

The man whispered, "God, speak to me" and a
meadowlark sang. But, the man did not hear.

So the man yelled, "God, speak to me" and the thunder
rolled across the sky. But, the man did not listen.

The man looked around and said, "God let me see you."
And a star shined brightly. But the man did not notice.

Then, the man shouted, "God show me a miracle" and, a
life was born. But, the man did not know.

So, the man cried out in despair, "Touch me God,
and let me know you are here." Whereupon, God
reached down and touched the man. But, the man
brushed the butterfly away and walked on.

Don't miss out on a blessing because it isn't
packaged the way that you expect.

So how many gifts, miracles and answers to your
prayers pass right before your eyes every day,
and you miss them? Perhaps you are so caught up
in the busyness of your life that you are
distracted or preoccupied and you don't see or
notice what is being put in front of you. Or
perhaps, as the man in the story, you're so busy
looking for a particular answer to your question
or problem that you miss the gift, the blessing,
the answer to your prayers that in fact is
being provided to you.

So how do you pay better attention to the blessings
that get put in your path every day? It begins by
first setting your intention that you want to, are
willing to do what it takes to pay attention to
them!

Slowing down helps. Breathing does too. When you
physically slow down, you are likely to mentally slow
down also. When your mind and body are racing, it's
hard to pay attention. When you are calmer, you are
more likely to be able to notice and to see things.
Even if your life is very hectic or full, you can
still slow down the pace of your inner life, which
will help you relax and be more available to pay
attention and receive.

And most importantly, as was so well illustrated in
the story, you have to be willing to let go of your
picture, of your agenda. So ask yourself what you
are trying to change or are searching for an answer
to. Then ask yourself what answer or solution you
are holding out for. And THEN ask yourself,

"Am I willing to consider that there are other
possible answers?" If the answer is "yes!", then
you have taken the next step towards receiving the
gifts and blessings of the universe. And you may
be very pleasantly surprised by what actually comes
your way! Stay open and enjoy!
