Having More Fun in 2003
by Stacey Mayo When I say have more fun in 2003, what comes to your mind??? Rarely do people think about having more fun in conjunction with work. Work is work and fun is what you do outside of work. Right? Not necessarily.
When I think of having more fun, I think of it with respect to free time as well as work. For me, it has become a MUST, that work be fun. It is no longer an option. But usually when I ask people to write a list of what they must have in a career, fun is nowhere on their list. They tell me it never crossed their mind to think of fun in conjunction with work. After thinking about it for about 30 seconds, they quickly add it to their list. There are two points that I want to make with respect to having more fun. The first is in order to have more time to play you have to play more. You heard me right. People generally think you have to work harder or smarter to have more time for play. Those are legitimate ways of doing it. But if you truly allow yourself to have more fun, you will relax more and when you are more relaxed, things flow easier, and when things flow easier, you struggle less and it takes less time to complete things and so you have even more time for play. The second is that you can have more fun at work. The key is to think about the things you really enjoy doing and bring them into work more. For example, I realized that I enjoy collaborating with people I laugh a lot more than when I am working by myself. And so, I have found ways to collaborate with people more such as the teleclass, Ready? Set? Go listed after this article. One of the requirements I have in picking collaboration partners is they must also want to have fun. Additionally, I have found that I get great joy when I am able to negotiate a good deal. And so, I have started looking at taking some money out of the stock market and putting it in good real estate investments. I get really excited when I find a good deal. I am collaborating on that project with my husband and so I have brought two of the things that are fun for me into this aspect of my work. What is fun for you? This week have an intention to play more. Notice what makes you laugh, what brings you joy and see how you can bring more of it into your present career or start writing a Must Haves list for your next career.
