Living Out Your Dreams

The Internet Newsletter of the Center for Balanced Living

Welcome to the July edition of Living Out Your Dreams.

Lately I have become acutely aware of how important it is for people to have a sense of belonging in one or more communities in their lives. In this edition I have a new article about the importance of having community and what that means. I have also added back in a section to acknowledge clients and friends of Center for Balanced Living for their successes in Living Out Their Dreams. If you have had a recent success and want to have it included in this newsletter, please email me.

Warmest wishes in making all your dreams come true.

Stacey

Creating Community

Questions of the Month:

In what communities do you engage?

Do these communities nurture you and provide you with a sense of belonging?

As I converse with others these days, I find that many people are missing a sense of community. It appears that many people are so busy "doing" or are wrapped up in creating their own lives that they may not take time to engage with others on a regular basis. When this happens, it can create a void in your life.

I realize that what defines a great community for one may not be the same for all, but I have brainstormed with others a list of what seem to be important components of community.

Think about the communities you most enjoy and of which you are a part now or have been a part of in the past and see which of these items is important to you. Note that neighborhood does not necessarily constitute community in the way we mean it here.

  • A community typically has three or more members
  • You feel safe to be yourself
  • Members come together for a common purpose/goal
  • Socializing is a part of the community or an outgrowth of it
  • You engage with the same members of this community on regular basis, more frequently than once a month, leaning towards weekly.
  • You have a sense of belonging when engaged in this community
  • Intimate conversations or personal sharing occurs

Notice which of these items resonate with you as being important and have the intention to create or join communities that satisfy your needs.

If there are others items that you think should be added to the list of what it takes to make a great community based on your personal experience, please send them to me at coach@balancedliving.com.

She's offering three hours of information via teleconference only for those who order the book by July 13th (prior to official publication). She said she'll also mail you a special gift, but she wouldn't tell me what it is!
