Top Ten Tips to Be Successful in Any Economy
by Stacey Mayo MCC
Since success is really internal and not determined by external events, one measure of success is how happy you are regardless of what the economic yardstick shows. The following are steps to increase both internal and external success:
You may want to spend some time or work with a coach to define what success means to you.
- Turn off the news. The news tends to over-dramatize things and replay negative events countless times (how many times did you need to see a plane hit the World Trade Center several years back?). This breeds fear. Fear contracts us and stops the flow.
- Focus on and express gratitude for things in your life that are good.
- Create a goal of what you really, really want and would create if the economy was at an all-time high.
- Get determined to meet the goal regardless of the economy. Commit to it. Look for opportunities and ways to meet it.
- Make yourself invaluable. Where can you add value at your job? In life? Let those who have influence know your ambitions and ask for their help here. Determine what needs in the marketplace or your company fit with your desires and abilities Tweak your dream to go with the flow - not against it. What do people need/want now? Position yourself well for when the turnaround comes.
- Write it out as if it had already happened. Then notice what you are inspired to do and act on it.
- Enroll other people in your goal whose strengths complement yours and bring them on the team. Don't try to do it by yourself. That's the hard way and we're into ease.
- Create multiple streams of income - that way you are not dependent on any one and if one dries up, you still have others. Make some of them passive (i.e., produce income even when you are not working.)
- Detach from having to have it look a certain way and be open to it coming from any direction. Keep focused on the goal - rather than the lack of it. Have fun! This may happen in your time frame or it may take longer or something even better may happen along the way. It's all perfect.
- Be grateful for and do a victory dance for every little success along the way.
Have fun and trust that it will all work out in the long run. Don't sweat the small stuff or the big stuff along the way.
