What is RIGHT about Your Life?

If you are like most people in the world, you spend a ton of time thinking about what isn't working in your life. Am I right? I mean really.... Couldn't you list off about 20 things that aren't quite up to par? You don't like your job.. You could stand to lose a few pounds.. Your financial picture could be a tad brighter.. You get my drift?

Most of us are REALLY critical of ourselves. We spend lots of time worrying about what isn't right about our lives. Frankly, this sort of thinking puts you in a BAD mood, though.. The TRICK is to change your mood.. If you want GOOD stuff to come your way, you must begin to feel GOOD about your life. LIKE attracts LIKE. It is as simple as that.

Let me break it down for ya.

"When it rains it pours." Ever heard this gem of a line before? It really is true. When you feel down in the dumps about something, you will notice that more crappy stuff will happen. You actually ATTRACT it by putting out the BAD MOOD VIBE. SO, how about letting some GOOD STUFF rain on you instead...

Here's how...

* Start by listing about all of the things that are going RIGHT in your life.

1. You have hair better than Farrah Fawcett back in the 70's.
2. You have more friends than a Texas Dog has fleas.
3. Your singing voice in the shower would put Barry White to shame.
4. You can whip up a perfect omelette.
5. Your kids think you hung the moon. They adore you.
6. You have incredible grace and balance.
7. You always remember people with a thank you note, no matter how busy you are.
8. You are in perfect health.
9. You've created a retreat-like backyard in your home.
10. You have the ability to totally relax in the midst of stressful times.

I don't care how bad your life seems, you can always come up with a long list of what is going RIGHT in your life. Start by listing out 20 things now...I'll wait.

OK, now that you've put your list together...Let's move on.

* Next, I want you to let OTHER people tell you how fabulous you are. Schedule a lunch or phone call this week with a buddy from your mutual admiration society. You will want to pick someone who can get really excited about seeing GOOD STUFF in you. (Hint, you are looking for someone who is positive most of the time.) Ask Happy Harry, your friend, to list out at least 20 things HE sees in your life that are GOOD. Now, return the favor and offer him a list of 20 things about his life...

Now, after doing both of these exercises, you will have a long list of your fabulous qualities. Your magnificence will be confirmed. You will also feel MUCH better about your life in general. You mood will be GOOD. So, GOOD stuff will now stick to you like white on rice. You'll have a hard time repelling all of the good fortune coming your way...

You see, sometimes we do need to take time out to focus on what is working instead of what is broken. Try to see yourself in this light all week. I challenge you to see other people this way, as well. Point out and notice what is WORKING in someone's life this week and see how they respond to you...

Better yet, notice how LIFE responds to you when YOU pay attention to what is RIGHT in your own life...There are many good things about your life.. Begin listing them now...

Here is what I love about you.. You are in the process of developing yourself. You check out these newsletters each week with an open and curious mind. Sometimes, you put these tips into action. You are in the process of improving and growing...Being in the PROCESS of improving yourself is such a HUGELY important thing.. So, no matter how down in the dumps you may be in one area of life, if you are in the process of improving the situation, you have a lot to feel good about...

Enjoy your week!

Kristin

4. Try This! Lifework - "Silent Compasssion"
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Lately, I've developed this habit of wishing people well as I pass them on the street. Try this... Next time you pass someone on the street, in the mall, in the hallway at work, etc, send them a silent message of good fortune (in your mind). For example, whenever I see someone who looks like they are suffering or having a bad day, as I pass them, I silently think, "I hope life improves for you."

Wishing someone well, without saying the words out loud, helps you develop compassion for every person you encounter. I also think it makes a difference for the receiver since it is a silent prayer for them.

Try it this week with at least 10 people.
