1. Welcome
* * * * * * * * *

Hello! What a busy month for me. I've been busy making changes to my website (driving my webmaster crazy!) and coaching people. If you go to my site, you'll notice an update of programs with links to each. Since my last newsletter, I've launched a new e-program. GOALS. People seem to like the accountability aspect the most. I actually call them on the phone if they're "off track" with assignments, so it's hard for them to hide out! I think it's fun. This month, I've written a feature article I think you'll enjoy. Please check it out as well as my coaching offers if you're looking for a way to begin coaching in February.

Warmly,

KristinCoach.

"A warrior lives by acting, not by thinking about acting, nor by thinking about what he will think when he has finished acting." Carlos Castenada

"Do what you feel in your heart to be right - for you'll be criticized anyway." Franklin D. Roosevelt

"Every positive change--every jump to a higher level of energy and awareness--involves a rite of passage. Each time to ascend to a higher rung on the ladder of personal evolution, we must go through a period of discomfort, of initiation. I have never found an exception." Dan Millman

3. Feature Article: A Simple Test - Do You Love Your Job?
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I have a luxury most people don't have. I never "have" to drive around in rush hour traffic. When droves of people are driving to and from work, I'm not. My "commute" is a short walk to my home office, sometimes in my comfy sweats.

Yes, I realize many of you don't give much thought to your commute, but I do. As they say, sometimes you have to lose something to know its true meaning. Well, I've lost my commute and I know what it means to me. It means FREEDOM and peace.

Don't get me wrong, I love to drive. It's driving with the rush hour "maniacs" I can't stand. Why are people so angry around 5 PM? Sometimes, I venture out around that time to run an errand. I always regret it! People are hostile. They're in a hurry. It's obvious they can't wait to get home. What on earth were these people doing all day to put them in such a foul mood? Working. That's it. They are all coming from work. Not much of a good mood enhancer, I suppose! As someone who's energized by her work, I want to stand on the roof of my car and shout out to the deadlocked crowd of traffic. "IT'S OK! THERE'S MORE TO LIFE THAN THIS!"

You know, I think I'm always shouting out this message in one way or another. It's on my website, in my e-courses and a part of this newsletter as well. So, let me say it again:

"IT'S OK. THERE'S MORE TO LIFE THAN THIS!"

Bear with me as I tell a personal story....

In my former career, as an Executive Recruiter, I remember working on site for this particular corporation. Oh yeah, I made the drive to and from work during rush hour. The work was frustrating. The hours were long and I totally lost my balance trying to keep up with the fast pace. Eventually, I cried myself to and from work. I even started listening to the "gospel channel" on the radio hoping for divine intervention.

You know, when you are in the midst of something like this, it's hard to really SEE yourself. For me, it took someone else's observation to jolt me into reality.

"Hey Kristin. Did I see you crying in your car on the way to work today," my coworker asked?

"Yep." I replied.

"What's up with that?" she quizzed.

Hmmm. What WAS up with that? In that moment, I finally saw myself clearly. I *hated* my job. I also felt sad for myself since my life was ALL about work, at that time. I fully invested myself in a job I couldn't stand. Crazy.

Yes, I do understand what some of you may be feeling about your jobs. I've been there. Let me be the person to jolt you into reality, though.

A SIMPLE TEST:

If you feel angry or stressed driving to or from work, you need to make some improvements to your life. Here's what you can do:

1. Focus on BALANCE first. How are these "non-work" areas of your life? Relationships, fitness, clutter-control, finances, FUN, health, spirituality, etc.

2. What are your personal STANDARDS? Do you have any? For ex: One standard I have for my life is to "do work that energizes me," Another one is to "only work with clients I like". Create YOUR list of standards now, even if some of them seem hard to reach. It all starts when you declare what you want.

3. Work with a coach to create the life and career you want, in the most direct route possible.

So, The next time you venture out into "rush hour" traffic, try to observe yourself. Are you thrilled to go to work? Does working all day energize you? Is BALANCE a big part or do you spend way too much time and energy "keeping up" the work area of your life?

Give it some thought and do something about it. It's up to you to create the life you want. Take charge.
