What I Did on My Summer Vacation
I know, I know. You havent seen this newsletter in quite awhileApril to be exact. And people have actually started to notice, sending me e-mails or meeting me face to face and asking when the next one will come out or telling me they miss hearing from me. I thank you for that! So here it is, and heres what Ive been up to instead of writing this newsletter. About a year and a half ago, my husband, Steve, was diagnosed with diabetes. Hes young, healthy and activenot the typical person you think diabetes would strike. But genetics were not working in his favor. He has managed his disease with a kind of determination and discipline that continues to inspire me. He checks his blood sugar level no less than six times a day, plus injects insulin before some meals and at bedtime. And he remains active, even though it means he has to be extra vigilant about low blood sugar events. As weve learned more and more about the disease, weve found that most people with diabetes are not so diligent. They are confused by all of the intricacies of diabetes and largely ignore their doctors advice to eat better and become more active. To fill this gap, Steve and I have been developing a business plan for a web-based company that will offer diabetics and their loved ones a place to go for support, education and encouragement. Our goal is to show this population (18 million and growing rapdily) that they can live a life with no limits. We all know how hard that can beeven if youre not facing a lifelong disease that requires daily management. I am so excited about the potential this new venture to touch people's lives in a positive way. While I will still be offering all of my writing, training and coaching services through Ovations, I will now focus my marketing efforts on the new business. In fact, this new venture will be a focus and passion until the day a cure for diabetes is found. I will continue to issue this newsletter periodically to help inspire you through your own endeavors and to keep you posted on my progress. I know Ive said it before, but I cant say it enough: Thank you for all of your support of my work and continued enthusiasm for each new direction my ever-evolving business has taken. If I can help to support you through the next exciting phase of your life or business, you know where to find me! And if you have any loved ones with diabetes, we would love to hear your (and their) thoughts on how our new business can serve them. In fact, we are starting an advance e-mail list for people who want to be alerted to the launch of the site (by the end of 2005). If you would like to be added to that list, please e-mail me.
